Get some (plein) air Saturday

Lamar Arts of Barnesville has invited all plein air artists to enter a Paint Out, a juried competition to take place Saturday, March 24. Artists will arrive at the Barnesville Depot at 8 a.m. to sign in before selecting a site downtown in which to paint. Entry is $35 at the door on the day of the competition. Prizes include $300 for best of show; $200, second, and $100 third place. Honorable mentions will receive ribbons. Judges will be Dr. Johnny Deen, Angela Preston and Laurie Eurich. Work will be produced on-site and should feature some aspect of the community. Laminated signs saying, ‘Lamar Arts Paint The Town’ for artists to hang on their painting station will identify them as part of this event. Many porches of Lamar Arts members will be available for artists to paint Victorian homes on historic Thomaston Street. In case of bad weather, indoor locations will be available. Artists will bring their finished works to the Depot at 3 p.m. where they will frame their work for exhibition. Snacks and drinks will be provided for the artists at the depot. Work will be judged at 4 p.m. A light reception will welcome artists and patrons from 4-6 p.m. to observe artworks, meet the artists and be able to purchase the artwork. Volunteers for support staff are needed from 8 a.m. through the rest of the day to meet and greet artists and get everyone set up. Residents may also volunteer their porches and extend bathroom privileges to artists. For information call Eleanor Stecker at 770-584-3745 or 770-358-6479; or John Votaw, 770-468-0288.
