Girl, 6, shot, killed by brother

A six-year old girl, Jenn Stanovich, is dead after being shot by her brother with a .22 caliber rifle. UPDATE: Will Davis, publisher of the Monroe County Reporter has identified the dead girl as Jenn Stanovich. The victim was from Connecticut. She and the brother were visiting relatives at a home on Hwy. 42 near Culloden when the shooting occurred. The full release from Allison Selman-Willis of the Monroe Co. S.O. follows: A six year old Monroe County girl is dead after being accidentally shot by her 13 year old brother. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the accidental shooting last night shortly after midnight, July 24, 2012. The 13 year old accidentally discharged the weapon inside the home he shared with his sister and their father after shooting armadillos in the yard around the house. The bullet from the .22 rifle struck the six year old in the wrist and abdomen. There was only one shot from the rifle. The six year old girl was transported to the Medical Center of Central Georgia where she died a short time later. Her body was sent to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation in this case; however, no charges are expected since foul play has not been determined to be a factor.
