Girl injured when van collides with train

A school-aged girl suffered major facial injuries when the van she was riding in collided with a train early Tuesday morning. She and her mother were taken to Macon Medical Trauma Center. It happened around 8 a.m. at the Aldora crossing on Old Zebulon Road in Barnesville. “She’s going to be okay,” said her father Charles Head after he arrived on the scene. He is a Gordon College police officer, former chief at GC and a former law enforcement officer of the year. His wife Lisa was reportedly driving the van and did not appear to be injured. Law enforcement officers at the scene said there needs to be a railing at the crossing as there are trains traveling up to speeds of 25 miles an hour in the area regularly now. It was speculated the train was going about 10 miles per hour and was not fully loaded with cars.
