Lamar County’s 7 and 8 year old softball allstars routed Crawford County 22-4 in the Dixie Darlings district tournament in Monticello last weekend to earn a berth in the eight-team, double elimination state tournament this week in Butler. The local girls will face Marion County in the first round Thursday at 6 p.m. The rest of the field includes Blazer Youth, Taylor County, Whitfield American, Monroe County, Jones County and. Whitfield National. The tourney will continue through Sunday, if necessary. The champion will represent Georgia in the Dixie Darling World Series in Denison, Tx beginning July 31. Lamar’s stars include Emily Heiney, Cayla Bishop, Aishja Wilcher, Kati Wright, Kaylee Horne, Brinkley Yevac, Trinity Fuller, Dona Traylor-Askew, Jada Wilkerson, Victoria Stewart, Sentricia Hugh and Shermiyah Dumas. The team is coached by Al Wilcher. Assistants include Dane Bishop, Deidra Thompson and Ryran Traylor. Lamar’s other softball allstar teams were eliminated at district. The 11 and 12 year olds lost to Crawford County and Jasper County while the 9 and 10 year olds fell to Jasper County and Perry.
