Gordon College is expecting record enrollment that could well exceed 4000 students when classes begin Monday.GC president Larry Weill told the Barnesville-Lamar County Industrial Development Authority August 13 projections were enrollment would be up 17% over last fall when enrollment was approximately 3800.There are indications enrollment could go as high as 4500. Enrollments are expected to be up throughout the University System of Georgia. During harsh economic times, many unemployed young people opt to go to college.Of the fall enrollees, 1,034 will live on campus, filling the college’s housing space. The high enrollment numbers are good news for landlords with units near the campus who are experiencing peak demand for their properties.Gordon officials anticipate having ample parking space for students but have reached an agreement with the City of Barnesville that will allow students to park at old Summers Field during the period August 17-31 only. Football field parking will only be used during that period and only if absolutely necessary.
