Gordon College student’s life shortened by alleged drunk driver in Cherokee County

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) about three in every ten Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related crash at some time in their lives. That is a statistic that hit very close to home when 19-year-old Gordon College Student Brittany Elaine Weiss was struck broadside while driving her 2008 Scion home from a Canton movie theatre during the holidays. Charged with a DUI and first-degree vehicular homicide, Stephen Patrick Wauschek of Canton, is being held in a Cherokee County jail on a $318,000 bail that has temporarily been put on hold due to some outstanding fines and charges. Weiss was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger, Kassandra Aileen Carman, 19, was injured and transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. Ms. Weiss was an avid theatre and film fan and had gone to a late showing of “Valkyrie.” Friends remember her as a very happy person who always had a smile on her face.
