Gordon hit by furloughs

Mandatory furloughs approved last week by the Board of Regents will have an impact at Gordon College but schedules will not be affected. University System mandated employees take at least three days without pay by the end of the calendar year and the remainder by the end of the fiscal year next June. Each institution will decide how its employees take furloughs but local leaders cannot cancel classes. Employees who make less than $23,660 annually are exempt. Gordon president Larry Weill said furloughs won’t cut into class schedules but students could find normally open labs and such closed at times. The cuts come at a time when enrollments at state colleges ‘“ Gordon included ‘“ are skyrocketing.
