The Gordon College men’s baseball team is 16-11 for the season and 5-1 in conference play after dropping one to Darton College but bouncing back with a three-game win over Vincennes University.In the Darton game, despite Lance Pope leading the Highlanders and going 3-3 including 2 doubles with 3 RBIs and Jim Moreland contributing two doubles, the Highlanders fell 8-11 The team bounced back taking all three in a home stand against Vincennes University. In the first game Gordon scored 6 to Vincennes’ 1 run. Brad Hutson threw a complete game allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 12. Lance Pope was 2-3 with a double and Brandon Chastain chipped in with a 2-3 performance. In the second game of a doubleheader, Gordon 8 Vincennes 2, Joah Evans recorded the win scattering 3 hits in 6 innings. Lance Pope led the offense with a 3-4 performance. Jim Moreland, Luke Walls and Eric Esquilin each added 2 hits. In Sunday’s final game, Gordon 9 Vincennes 4, Bryant Kerns picked up the win going 5 innings and allowing only 1 hit while striking out 6. Luke Walls was 3-3 with 3 runs scored. Blake Parrott added 3 hits while Jim Moreland and Lance Pope each added 2 hits. The Highlanders start an eight-game home stand March 21 playing Young Harris, Chattanooga State Community College and Middle Georgia. They then take to the road for nine games before returning home April 17 for a stand that will conclude regular season play.
