Gordon student struck by car identified

A Gordon State College student was struck by a car on campus and hospitalized Monday morning. UPDATE: The student has been identified as Emily Brooke McClure of 3029 Sarah Lane in Griffin. She was crossing College Drive near its intersection with Houston Avenue when she was struck by a 1984 Chevy C20 pickup driven by Jacob Daniel Sanders of 100A Dobbins Mill Rd. in Griffin. McClure was not using a crosswalk. Sanders was not charged. McClure was taken Spalding Regional Medical Center where she is recovering from minor injuries. The incident happened at about 8:30 a.m. during a period of heavy rain. The as yet unidentified student was hit while attempting to cross College Drive where students are notorious for ignoring crosswalks, signage and signals. The driver who hit the student has likewise not yet been identified. BPD investigators are working the incident. ”Students are reminded to use the many crosswalks provided on campus,” GSC PIO Tamara Boatwright said. She had no information on the condition of the injured student.
