Gordon teams cling to postseason lives

Gordon College has one team trying to make it to the national tournament and another already in but trying to stay alive as the Highlanders are in Cochran for the NJCAA East Central District baseball tournament while the Lady Highlanders are playing in the JUCO softball World Series in St. Georgia, Utah. The unranked Highlanders (33-23), runners-up in last weekend’s GCAA tournament, will face sixth ranked and Tennessee champion Walters State (52-9) at three o’clock Friday afternoon while GCAA champion and eighth ranked Middle Georgia plays Tennessee runner-up, twelfth ranked Columbia State (42-12) at seven o’clock. The losers will meet Saturday at one o’clock while the winners will play at four o’clock in the double elimination tourney. The last team standing will advance to the NJCAA baseball World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. The fourteenth seed Lady Highlanders (38-18) split a pair of games on day one of the softball World Series losing to third seed Blinn (Tex.) 9-0 before eliminating Crowder (Mo.) 3-2 to advance for a match up with fifth seed and twelfth ranked State College of Florida (49-12) Friday at noon. The winner will play again at three o’clock while the loser goes home. The Lady Highlander games can be heard streaming live on NJCAA TV by accessing www.njcaa.com. There is no broadcast for the Highlander baseball game.
