Gordon College has notified homeowners near property it acquired off Collier Road several years ago that it plans to cut timber there beginning this month. The property, known as the Tyus estate, contains approximately 70 acres and also fronts on Forsyth, Holmes, and Lafayette streets and Honeysuckle Lane. The college intends to cut a new road into the property from Collier Road and construct two or three athletic practice fields there. Gordon will remove only pine trees from the property and leave a 50-foot buffer between the work site and homes in the area. There are no plans for an access road into the property from Honeysuckle Lane at this time.
