Gordon to thin timber tract in city limits

The Georgia Forestry Commission, on behalf of Gordon State College, will soon begin thinning 28 acres of property bound by Honeysuckle Lane, Holmes Street, U.S. Highway 41 and Forsyth Street east of the main campus area. The purpose of the harvest is to remove diseased and suppressed pine trees to create more space for healthier pines. Only pines will be removed from the acreage, hardwoods will remain uncut except for those blocking two access points to the area, one on Holmes and one on Honeysuckle. Work on the property is slated to begin in the next few weeks but depends greatly on the weather.
