Gordon unveils historical marker

In ceremonies at 10 a.m. yesterday at the southeast corner of old Summers Field, a state historic marker commemorating the 1938 visit by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to Barnesville was unveiled. FDR was here to flip the switch on the local REA system but instead made news by meddling in Georgia politics. Spearheading the effort to have the marker erected was former Gordon College student Anthony McCalla. In attendance were Mayor Peter Banks, city manager Kenny Roberts, Southern Rivers Energy officials, state officials and representatives of the Georgia Historical Society.
