Gordon College’s Chase Raffield was named the Most Valuable Player for the 2010 Region XVII Post-Season Baseball Tournament by the GJCAA. The freshman from Cochran scorched opposing pitchers with 17 hits and 5 homeruns while posting a .567 batting average in seven games. Teammates Andy Almonte (FR, East Paulding), Dustin Dalken (FR, North Forsyth), Jim Moreland (SO, North Gwinnett), Blake Thomas (FR, John Milledge), and Ted Pratt (SO, Lassiter) joined Raffield on the All-Tournament Team.The Highlanders dominated the first team with six out of twelve selections enroute to winning the region championship against Middle Georgia College. The Highlanders will host Chattanooga State in the NJCAA East Central Regional this weekend beginning Friday at three o’clock. Game two is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. with the third and deciding game, if necessary set for Sunday at two o’clock. The winner of the regional advances to the NJCAA Division I World Series in Grand Junction, CO next weekend.
