Grand jury to convene Dec. 14; may get Milner case

The Lamar County grand jury will convene Dec. 14 and deal with a backlog of cases that have piled up on the docket due to COVID-19. The last grand jury convened in March. The June and September sessions were cancelled. ’We will select the grand jurors in the main courtroom and then move them to the commission chambers in order to maintain social distancing. We will require masks and use hand sanitizer,’ district attorney Jonathan Adams said. The grand jury could get the file on the ongoing investigation into the Milner city council. Adams and sheriff Brad White ordered the probe after being informed of irregularities. The investigation began May 18. The city’s books are undergoing a forensic audit by the GBI that stemmed from the probe. ’The GBI is still working on a completed case file for me to present to the grand jury. I hope it will be complete by the 14th. If so, I will present it to them,’ Adams concluded.
