Griffin police arrest armed robbery suspect

Griffin police investigators have arrested Maurice Newton on multiple criminal counts in connection with two armed robberies. Newton was arrested Nov. 7 for violating the terms of his probation. On Nov. 19, multiple other charges were added in connection with an armed robbery at Amin’s Food Mart on Aug. 30 and Griffin Convenience Store on Oct. 8. Both are on Experiment Street. Both were hit by two black males with pistols and bandanas over their faces. Newton is charged with seven counts of aggravated assault, two counts of armed robbery and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. More charges are pending.
