Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new, $13.5 million Student Activities and Recreation Center were held on the Gordon State College campus Jan. 16.The new building will be paid for through student activity fees. The Gordon State College Foundation is underwriting the cost of the 65,000 square foot building which is under construction in front of the existing Alumni Memorial Hall.Dr. Tommy Hopkins of Griffin, a member of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, gave the keynote address. Dr. Hopkins noted the local project is the only public/private venture funded for construction by the system this year.
