GSC Theatre’s ‘Raisin in the Sun’ starts today

The Gordon State College Theatre production of ‘A Raisin in the Sun,’ by Lorraine Hansberry opens Wednesday and continues through March 31. The actors take the stage of the Gordon State College Theatre each night at 7:30 with a matinee Sunday, March 31 at 2 p.m. To accompany the play actors are presenting ‘Clybourne Park’ by Bruce Norris on Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m. According to Lisa Ferguson, GSC Assistant Professor of Theatre, Clybourne is a staged reading on ‘The Raisin in the Sun’ set. ’This reading offers some wonderful student and faculty performances. There will be limited props and limited movement because it is not a full production,’ Ferguson said. ‘Clybourne is a public performance, anyone can attend and time permitting we will have a short “talk back” after the reading.’ Winner of both the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for Best Play, ‘Clybourne Park’ is a razor-sharp satire about the politics of race. In response to Lorraine Hansberry’s ‘A Raisin in the Sun.’ playwright Bruce Norris set up ‘Clybourne Park’ as a pair of scenes that bookend Hansberry’s piece. These two scenes, 50 years apart, are both set in the same modest bungalow on Chicago’s northwest side that features at the center of ‘A Raisin in the Sun,’ according to Stageagent.com.
