GSC to offer new business management degree

Gordon State College will begin offering classes that will lead to a Bachelor of Science in Management and Administration degree fall semester 2015. The degree program was approved Wednesday by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. Since Gordon joined the University System in 1972, an associate of science transfer degree with concentration in business administration has been one of the most popular programs on campus. Students received a solid foundation in business administration, but had to transfer to other institutions to complete their degree requirements. With the implementation of the new degree program, Gordon officials expect more than 100 students in the first cohort next fall. The regional workforce is also expected to benefit from the additional baccalaureate degree offered at Gordon. ’We believe that we can best serve our area by providing students from diverse backgrounds and with varying interests a solid foundation in the fundamental underpinnings of management and administration which will enable them to grow into leaders in our community,’ said Jeffery Knighton, interim dean, School of Arts and Sciences. Knighton said that more than 60 letters supporting development of the BSMA program were received from the regional business community. The BSMA brings to nine the number of four-year degrees offered by Gordon State College. Other offerings include: Early Childhood Education, History, English, Biology, Mathematics, Nursing, Health Services and Informatics Administration and Human Services. Gordon also offers 40 fully transferable associate level concentrations of study. The BSMA program will be administered through the Department of Business and Public Service. Students interested in the program should contact, interim department head.
