The 23-year old Lamar County man who was behind the wheel at the time of the early morning accident Jan. 31, 2015 that killed Kara Holland was allegedly drunk and faces multiple serious criminal charges.Brian Thomas Thompson of 523 Eady Creek Road, Milner, was arrested May 8, 2015 on charges brought by the Georgia State Patrol following an investigation by its special accident reconstruction team. He is charged with first degree vehicular homicide, DUI, serous injury by vehicle, reckless driving and weaving over the roadway.According to reports, Thompson was driving eastbound on Morgan Dairy Road in a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup at a high rate of speed when he lost control, overcorrected, and struck a dirt culvert at 3:35 a.m. The truck overturned. Holland, 21, was dead at the scene.Thompson and a second passenger, 23-yearold Rebecca Chappel, were also seriously injured and eventually lifeflighted to Atlanta Medical Center.Holland was the owner of Some Beach Tans. Her parents, Frank and Julie Holland, operate Frank’s Automotive and Towing in Barnesville.Thompson’s charges will go before a grand jury. If it sticks, the vehicular homicide charge on Thompson will be the third such pending case on the court calendar. Lamar juries have shown a hesitancy to convict on that charge recently.
