Hambrick, Hollandsworth named to BoA; Horton sounds off

The Lamar County commission voted unanimously Feb. 9 to name John Hambrick and Roger Hollandsworth to the Board of Assessors. Meanwhile, no decision has yet been made on cutting the board from five members to three. Board chairman Jay Matthews noted the commission is now leaning toward leaving the board membership at five. That would require one or two additional appointments depending on how the situation with embattled chairman Lisa Dzidezic is resolved. In other business, the commission: ’¢ Shot downn a proposal by George Brown that it hold a workshop each month prior to its meetings. Georgia law does not recognize workshops. All such gatherings are official meetings. ’¢ Heard Brown announce his reelection campaign. ’¢ Heard an impassioned plea from commissioner Bennie Horton that bloggers sign their names. He noted he was the “proud co-owner” of Horton’s Rendezvous and that he worked two jobs to get to where he is today. “Take some of your negative time and work toward positive times. The good Lord gave us all minds. Remember, a learned person doubts one time. A coward doubts many times,” Horton said.
