Harold Grady Carter

Mr. Harold ‘Grady’ Carter, age 87, of Barnesville passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013 in an Atlanta healthcare facility. Born to the late Mr. Richmond Stonewall Carter and the late Mrs. Nancy Emma Lou Pounds Carter, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Velma Carter Rhodes; and by two grandchildren, Carter Smith and Julie Elizabeth Carter. Mr. Carter was a former owner of Carter’s Drugs, which was a community icon for 54 years. He was also a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Carter is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jackie Carter of Barnesville; his children, Robert Winston Carter (and Diane) of Charlotte, N.C., Patricia Carter Fountain (and Robert) of Macon, Kelly Douglas Carter of Barnesville and Donald Bowman Carter of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Stonie Carter of Barnesville; nine grandchildren, Trey, Laura, Robert, Tyler, Matt, Drake, Grace-Kelly, Justin and Heather; seven great-grandchildren, Emsley, Elizabeth, Bryce, Bowman, Lena, Kerah and Eli; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Grady Carter will be conducted Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 3 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville with the Rev. Dana Overton-Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 2 p.m. until the service hour. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 375 Thomaston St., Barnesville, Ga., 30204, barnesvillefumc.org.
