Heartless thugs steal Rebuild Lamar’s tools

Rebuild Lamar is a small local group of volunteers who recruit others to assist them with home repair projects for needy individuals in the community who can not afford to have the work done themselves.

Now those volunteers will have to rebuild their tool inventory after thieves broke into their trailer and stole equipment valued at over $8000.

Former commission chairman Charles Glass called in the theft Monday morning, March 4 and police responded to property owned by Niall Matthieson at 105 Carleeta St. where the trailer was parked.
Matthieson discovered the theft at about 8:30 a.m.

Two locks were cut off the trailer and multiple items were missing, including two large, black rolling toolboxes filled with DeWalt hand tools along with multiple other items.

Glass said the tools were bought with donated money or grant funds. “We were very frugal with our funds and we purchased all the tools at Black Friday sales or other deeply discounted sales,” Glass said.

The locks and trailer were wet when Sgt. Jesse Blackmon arrived to work the scene so fingerprinting was not an option.

Glass said all the tools had been marked with fluorescent green paint. If you spot tools with such a marking, contact police.

If you can help Rebuild Lamar rebuild its tool inventory, call Matthieson at 404.444.2671 or Glass at 770.630.2372.
