Heat advisory issued for Lamar

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Lamar County. The advisory is for areas of the state along and south of a line from Troup County, to Pike County, to Jackson County, to Madison County until 8:00 p.m. A heat advisory means that a period of dangerous heat is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create heat index readings of at least 105 degrees and very warm overnight temperatures. People are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air conditioned room and stay out of direct sunshine. Remember that the elderly, the very young and people with heart conditions are most at risk in extreme heat. Friends, relatives and neighbors should check on those who may be at risk.
