Help Santa fill his bag with toys

Three local charities are hoping for donations of toys or money to help provide Christmas joy for local children this season. Hope Tree Ministries is asking for donations of new and gently used toys for more than 20 children. Rev. Jimmy Fambro asks donors to buy new or clean gently used toys and drop them by the First Baptist Church between 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or send a monetary donation to P.O. Box 782, Barnesville, 30204 by Dec. 20. For information call 770-972-2457. The plan is to deliver toys on Dec. 21, 22 and 23. Toys for Tots, run by Marine Corps League 1196 of Griffin, plans to give out toys Saturday, Dec. 22, from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the Lamar County Activity Center. New, unwrapped toys will be collected at the Atlanta Festival Ballet performances of The Nutcracker at the schools’ Fine Arts Center Saturday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. There is also a raffle for two airline tickets. Collection boxes are out at the schools and Three Doors Down and more are being sought. For information call 770-364-0070 or 770-358-7345 or visit toysfortots.org Empty Stocking Fund organizers have 183 children to provide Christmas gifts to. The Empty Stocking Tree is at Slices. Drop off a new unwrapped toy or pick a tag off the tree and bring the toy back to Slices to receive a free beverage. ESF also is collecting Christmas candies to add to children’s boxes. Firefighters will collect money during boot drives every Saturday until Christmas. The annual ESF After Hours will be held at United Bank Thursday, Dec. 6, from 5-7 p.m. There are still children available for adoption by Sunday School classes, offices or families.
