Herman Riley Coffey obituary

Mr. Herman Riley Coffey, age 89, of Barnesville passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012 in a Spalding County healthcare facility. A native of Ellijay, he was the son of the late Mr. Clyde Coffey and the late Mrs. Emma Chadwick Coffey, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Emma Louise Poteet Coffey. He was a master lumber grader and retired as a machine operator from the William Carter Company. Mr. Coffey was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the WWII Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Distinguished Unit Award. Survivors include his four sons, Herman Richie Coffey (and Pat) of Lamar County, Ernie Coffey of Pike County, Don Coffey (and Ann) of Lamar County, Earl Coffey (and Vicki) of Lamar County; one daughter, Sarah Osborne (and Keith) of Fort Valley; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Hazel Woods of Ellijay; one brother, Bill Coffey of Ellijay; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Funeral services for Mr. Herman Riley Coffey will be conducted Sunday, July 8, 2012 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening, July 7, 2012 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Those who wish may view the memorial page and sign the guestbook online at williamsfh.net.
