High profile cases to be heard Thursday

Multiple high profile criminal cases are on the pre-trial docket for Lamar superior court June 29. Judge Bill Fears will preside. Among those cases is a pre-trial hearing in the case of Bobbie Jo Sumner. She is charged with first degree vehicular homicide and four counts of making false statements in connection with the June 29, 2013 hit and run death of GSC student Alexandra Noelle Desir. Criminal trials will begin July 24. Also on the calendar is the case of David Lewis McGuire who is charged with malice murder, felony murder and multiple other charges. He allegedly shot and killed his 70-year-old mother, Elaine Brown McGuire, last September. Tyler Walker Pitts is also scheduled to appear. He is charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, obstruction, aggravated assault, fleeing and attempting to elude, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Pitts was shot after a high speed chase during which he opened fire on deputies. No law enforcement officers were hit. Alleged arsonist Connie Dale Huggins is also to appear. She is charged with eight counts of first degree arson and criminal attempt to commit a felony in connection with a string of Atlanta Street arsons in March 2016.
