High profile defendants in court Wednesday

By Walter Geiger Several criminal cases involving high profile defendants are on the pre-trial calendar to be heard in Lamar superior court April 15. Judge Tommy Wilson will be on the bench. Among the cases is that of Thomas Edward Lenhart III who is charged with first degree vehicular homicide and hit and run. Lenhart is charged in connection with the death of Thomas Norman Anderson. Anderson was found dead along the railroad tracks near T.J. Outfitters on Hwy. 36 West at daybreak on March 2, 2012. Also scheduled to appear is Bobbie Jo Sumner who allegedly hit and killed Gordon State College student Alexandra Noelle Desir on Rose Avenue in Barnesville June 29, 2013. Desir, 20, was struck down while walking to work at Huddle House from her GSC dorm. Sumner is charged with first degree vehicular homicide and hit and run. Yet another tragic case involves Vivian Massey who is charged with two counts second degree vehicular homicide and failure to stop at a stop sign in connection with a crash at the intersection of Johnstonville and Crawford roads. That collision killed Pearl and John Kemp, both of Barnesville. The calendar also includes the case of Michael Ryan Shirk. Shirk was arrested here last April after alegedly sending sexually explicit photos of his genitalia to a person whom he thought was a 14-year-old girl. The girl turned out to be a sheriff’s deputy. Shirk, who claimed to be taking sniper training at Fort Benning, also arranged to meet the girl but was arrested by a takedown team of deputies. He is charged with computer pornography, obscene internet contact with a child and criminal attempt to commit a felony. Arthur Bill Williams and Deontae Terrell Williams face multiple counts after allegedly stealing a trailer from a local farm and then using the equipment to steal zero turn mowers from Akins Farm & Home and the Barnesville city barn.
