High speed chase ends in arrest

A high speed pursuit along I-75 culminated with a foot chase and the arrest of a black male suspected of a rape and other offenses. From Allison Selman-Willis, Monroe Count sheriff’s office: An Adel, Georgia, man was arrested today after leading Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a 23 mile chase that ended in Bibb County. Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies were on I-75 southbound when they clocked a Nissan sedan traveling at 97 m.p.h. near the 181 mile marker around 11:30 a.m. A deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, driven by Charles Tyson Heard, 42, of Adel. Heard refused to stop the Nissan and engaged in a chase that ended at Tindall Heights near Mercer University when Heard jumped from the still-moving Nissan and led Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies in addition to officers with the Macon Police Department on a foot chase. MPD officers apprehended Heard and turned him over the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies for arrest. Heard is wanted in Berrien County and Cook County for charges of rape, kidnapping, false imprisonment, theft by taking, and aggravated assault with a firearm. In Monroe County Heard is being charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude, felony obstruction and reckless conduct.
