Improvements to the popular Highlander Trail walking track on the campus of Gordon State College are complete and the track has reopened. The trail has been restriped and resurfaced all along its 1.21 miles. The woods that the trail winds through have also been thinned out and cleared, making for a more pleasant walking area.Highlander Trail is available for use by area residents and can be accessed from two turnstiles on Honeysuckle Drive and a turnstile on Holmes Street. The trail is designed for walkers and runners only. Baby strollers are allowed but pets, bicycles of any kind, skateboards and motorized vehicles are prohibited. For walkers who want to track the distance traveled, the white trail is 1.21 miles, the yellow is .80 miles and the blue, which meanders by the Challenge Course, is .66 miles.’We want this to be a pleasant place that people can utilize as part of their outdoor fitness regime or to just enjoy a quiet stroll,’ said Tamara Boatwright, spokesperson for Gordon State College.
