Ronald L.(Tootsie) Horton and Christopher Hightower have qualified to seek the ward two seat on the Barnesville city council vacated by the resignation of Annie Mae Harris. Hightower served two terms on the council, having been elected in 1993 and reelected in 1997. He is the son of veteran school board member Horace Hightower. Horton is the son of county commissioner Bennie Horton and, like his father, is an accomplished musician/band leader. The vote will be held March 17, 2009. The last day to register to vote is February 16, 2009. The elections board will handle the city vote.
