Christopher Hightower defeated Ronald Horton in today’s special election and will assume the ward two seat on the Barnesville city council vacated last year by Annie Mae Harris.Hightower took 34 votes while Horton garnered 33. Turnout was 10.7%.Hightower, the son of longtime school board member Horace Hightower, served on the council some years ago.A thankful Hightower was grateful to God and those who supported him at the polls. He also congratulated Horton on a race well run after the votes were tabulated.Hightower will have to run again later this year for a full, four-year term.
