The coming weekend has turned into a two-day pair of events for fundraising for Gavin Lance and family. Lance had an accident in August, suffering a brain trauma, and has recovered enough to attend the Holiday Hustle road race at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.New plans call for a benefit dinner and entertainment provided by the high school International Thespian Society. Drama students will present ‘Madrigal for Hope’ at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in the high school cafeteria. All proceeds will be donated to the family. Lance played baseball for the high school as number 14.’Everyone is invited to join the royal court for a medieval dinner and entertaining performances,’ said Carol Parrish.Madrigal tickets are available in the high school office. For information, contact Parrish at 770-358-8641 or cparrish@ lamar.k12.ga.us.The family plans to be at the Holiday Hustle road race, which will follow the Buggython 5K route to and from Summers Field through Thomaston and Greenwood streets. Up to 200 runners will wear reflective clothing and flashing or blinking lights as they run through decorated streets. ‘We’d love to see the streets along the route lit up with holiday spirit,’ said organizer Kathy Oxford. ‘We hope the residents will come out and cheer the runners along.’All money raised will help the family with expenses. The cost is $35 the night of the race. The Triple B’s breast cancer awareness group organized the run because his mother Jodi Kidd walked with them at the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day in 2009.There will be prizes for overall winners, male and female in first through third places and age category winners including first and second male and female. For information call 678-877-9532 or email kathysinspired@ gmail.com. For those who cannot be a part of either event, United Bank has a fund for Lance and his family set up where donations can be made.
