Holiday spirit shines bright

The annual Illumination Celebration will be held Wednesday, Nov. 25 in downtown Barnesville. The celebration will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a community church service at Barnesville First United Methodist Church. The service is sponsored by the Lamar County Ministerial Association. From the church, revelers will stroll downtown where the First Baptist Church choir and dancers from Kim Ozier Studio will perform at 7:30 p.m.on Main Street near Barnesville Eye Clinic. The theme for this year’s event, which is sponsored by the Barnesville-Lamar County Chamber of Commerce, is ‘Winter Wonderland’. The FBC choir will perform Christmas selections. Rev. Jay Tenney, pastor of First United Methodist Church, will offer a prayer and words of inspiration. Children will squeal with delight when Santa Claus arrives downtown in a buggy. Photos of children with the man in red will be made at Main Street Advisors by Reflections Photography. Participating downtown merchants will be open extended hours that evening. Special treats will be available from Dream Affairs Catering, Southdown BBQ & Grills, Red Rooster, Pastime and the Lamar Co. Volunteer Fire Dept.
