Holy Week activities abound

By Sherri Ellington The Easter holidays has brought a number of things to do as warmer spring weather gets people out of their houses. Some of the festivities begin this week. First up is a showing of The Passion of Christ at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26 at the parsonage of Rev. Chris Wagoner of Milner and Marvin United Methodist churches. For directions call Wagoner at 770-358-0188, via cell at 706-308-5300 or ccswagoner1@ With Palm Sunday worship with a fellowship breakfast at 9 a.m. March 23, the churches plan to hold Maundy Thursday services at Marvin UMC at 6:30 p.m. March 28, Good Friday services at Milner on March 29 6:30 p.m. Easter Sunday will also be celebrated on Sunday, March 31 at both churches. There will be an Easter egg hunt Sunday, March 24, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6542 starting at 2 p.m. for children up to 10 years of age. There will be games for children. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served to children. The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures. For information or directions call the VFW Post home daily after 4 p.m. at 770-358-6612. The Booker High School Class of 1962 will hold its eighth annual Feed the Community on Good Friday at 12 noon March 29, at the E.P. Roberts Center. Barnesville First Assembly will hold its annual flashlight Easter egg hunt Friday, March 29. Inflatables, face painting, and food to begin at 7 p.m. The egg hunt will begin at dark. Barnesville Church of the Nazarene will hold its annual Sonrise Service Easter Sunday, March 31, at 7 a.m., followed by a continental breakfast. The choir and drama team will present ‘It Is Finished’ at 10:30 a.m. Call 770-358-1314 or go to for information. St. Peter the Rock Catholic Church will begin its Easter Week Mass schedule on Holy Thursday, March 28 with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7 p.m. On Good Friday, March 29, the Stations of the Cross will be at 3 p.m. and the Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion at 7 p.m. Holy Saturday, March 30, will be marked by an Easter Vigil Mass at 8 p.m. On Easter Sunday, March 31, Easter Mass will be at 10 a.m., and again in Spanish at 1 p.m. For information call 706-648-2599.
