Holy Week activities updated

By Sherri Ellington Easter week happenings are being held all over Lamar County, from community dinners to egg hunts to religious services. The Booker High School Class of 1962 will hold its eighth annual Feed the Community on Good Friday at 12 noon March 29, at the E.P. Roberts Center. Barnesville First Assembly will hold its annual flashlight Easter egg hunt Friday, March 29. Inflatables, face painting and food will be offered at 7 p.m. The egg hunt will begin at dark. As part of its Easter coloring contest, drawings for a prize filled basket will be held Friday, March 29 at First Franklin Financial at 788 Veterans Pkwy. Children grade 6 and under are eligible. New Life Anointed Ministries will hold an Easter egg hunt at 948 Veterans Pkwy. at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30. Pine View Baptist Church at 430 Collier Rd. in Barnesville will hold its Easter Eggstravaganza from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, March 30. There will be games, giveaways, an egg hunt and the Easter story. For information call 770-358-2915. St. Peter The Rock Catholic Church will begin its Easter Week Mass schedule on Holy Thursday, March 28 with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7 p.m. On Good Friday, March 29, the Stations of the Cross will be at 3 p.m. and the Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion at 7 p.m. Holy Saturday, March 30, will be marked by an Easter Vigil Mass at 8 p.m. On Easter Sunday, March 31, Easter Mass will be at 10 a.m., and again in Spanish at 1 p.m. For information call 706-648-2599. Bethel Baptist Church of Barnesville at 702 Johnstonville Rd. will offer food, fun and fellowship during Resurrection Weekend. Resurrection Weekend will begin on Saturday, March 30, with a youth cook-out and egg hunt from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the recreation complex on Gordon Road. It will continue to Resurrection Sunday, March 31, with morning worship beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the church. The annual Easter production will be held Sunday, March 31, following morning worship. Barnesville First Methodist Church on Thomaston Street will hold Maundy Thursday services at 7 p.m. March 28. Good Friday services will be held at 7 p.m. March 29. An Easter egg hunt for children of all ages is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at the home of Louise Jackson at 143 Murphey Ave. First Methodist will hold three services on Easter Sunday, March 31 including a sunrise service at 7 a.m. on the front steps of the church, a contemporary casual service at 9 a.m. in the fellowship hall and a traditional Easter celebration in the sanctuary at 11 a.m. For information call Rev. Bethel AME Church will hold its Easter sunrise service at 8 a.m. Sunday, March 31. The speaker will be pastor Tammie McFadden. Aldora United Methodist Church will hold a sunrise service for Easter with a free breakfast for the community immediately following. This year Ebenezer UMC will assist. There will be a drama with a life-sized model of Jesus’ tomb with the stone rolled away. The service begins at 7 a.m.
