Homeland Security: Do citizens benefit?

By Robert Heiney The DHS, an Orwellian sounding agency that literally smothers you with surveillance, gun toting guards, naked scanners at airports and other 1984 type controls, is looking to purchase up to 450,000,000 hollow point bullets. What is the Department of Homeland Security? It’s made up of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Citizenship and Immigration Services, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Coast Guard, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Secret Service and Transportation Security Administration. While these agencies on the surface appear to perform legitimate law enforcement functions, you might wonder if there truly is a citizen benefit for a DHS purchase of 450 million hollow point bullets. After all, these agencies aren’t in Afghanistan, Libya, Iran or Syria where an extra ration of bullets will do a law enforcement officer good. Or, we may ask as many anti-gun proponents do; are these for hunting, sport shooting or good old fashioned target practice? If DHS needs all these bullets for hunting, who might they be hunting since this agency is primarily concerned with domestic terrorism? It can’t be to assist in the effort to stop the inflow of illegal immigrants because we already know Mr. Obama has relaxed enforcement by those we taxpayers pay to stop such crime ‘“ namely the DHS. Let’s not forget how the federal government is suing Arizona for passing an anti-illegal immigration law, in desperation, that mirrors federal law that mysteriously isn’t enforced by the various DHS agencies tasked with just that purpose. With that in mind, there appears to be scant need for all those bullets on the borders. These 450,000,000 hollow point bullets going to an Orwellian and many say unconstitutional agency called the DHS should raise many eyebrows. Certainly our highly paid and extremely competent watchdogs in Congress and Senate are monitoring the situation and preparing an informative statement. Don’t expect a straight answer from them. They voted for the NDAA bill containing two provisions permitting the President to lock citizens up indefinitely without charging them with any crime. Worse, it empowers arrests by the U.S. military, all violations of the U.S. Constitution. In the meantime, let’s not forget the federal government is waging a campaign to take away guns from all citizens even as they arm themselves and their partners to the teeth. With enough bullets to kill every man, woman and child in the U.S. with bullets left over in case they miss, the U.S. government is clearly arming itself for an epic battle. Against whom? The federal government through the 2009 MIAC report identifi ed pro-life supporters, Second Amendment activists, Constitutionalists, Libertarians and even pastor Chuck Baldwin as possible domestic terrorists. If you’re pro-life, progun and believe in the Constitution, you might have reason to be concerned about this latest investment by the federal government in your security.
