Honor our KIA event set for Sunday in Griffin

Area servicemen killed in action will be honored with a series of events set for Sunday, May 24 in Griffin as part of a Memorial Day observance. There is a lunch at noon followed by a dedication ceremony at the Griffin Auditorium at 2 p.m. You can read a list of servicemen to be honored They include 2nd Lieutenant Frederick Davenport Melton, the uncle of Herald Gazette publisher Laura Geiger. Lt. Melton was assigned to the U.S. Army Calvary and Reconnaissance. He was just 20 years old when he was cut down by German machine guns near Havart, Germany after rescuing four of his men.
