A Polar Express Christmas Illumination Celebration will roll into town at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the Barnesville Depot. It is being hosted by the Chamber of Commerce.The Community Thanksgiving Service, sponsored by the Lamar County Ministerial Association, will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of Barnesville First United Methodist Church. Rev. Craig Ogletree, pastor of Greater Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Milner, will bring the message. Special music will be provided by the Community Choir, consisting of members of various church choirs in our community under the direction of Rev. John Cox, minister of music at BFUMC and the Antioch Trio of Antioch Baptist Church.After the service ends, there will be Christmas carols, reading of the Christmas story, pictures with Santa at Reflections Photography Studio and the lighting of downtown.As a lead up to the event window decorating and gingerbread house contests are planned. Vendor booth sites are free.Boarding passes can be stamped at local merchants for a chance to win up to $100.’We’re moving full steam ahead with this event and hope you’ll hop aboard and join us for a night of community togetherness and fun,’ said chamber president Marshall Hooks.The chamber is also seeking sponsors for the event.
