I’m disturbed. What’s your excuse?

The engineer accused of fatally shooting one employee and wounding five others at the firm where he once worked is “very mentally ill” and crumbled under the stress of his divorce, bankruptcy and unemployment, his attorney said Saturday. Fort Hood shooter was psychologically disturbed by his own job citing stress-related thoughts after hearing his own patients post-war stories. State records show Atlanta court gunman Brian Nichols was mentally or emotionally disturbed at the time of his trial. And the list goes on. Murderer after murderer. Gunman after gunman. The details of their crimes may differ but it would seem one thing remains the same – their plea. According to the Associated Press more than 65% of accused killers plead insanity as the motive behind their vicious crimes. Aside from the tax dollars and state/federal resources abused to prosecute and, in some cases, treat these men/women, what are other implications of such a rampant trend? What are your thoughts about obviously premeditated activity cowtowing to insanity pleas? GO!
