Sheriff White has released an image of the SUV pulling a boat trailer his investigators have determined lost the tire that killed Alpharetta banker Brian Durst on the side of I-75 in Lamar County Monday. Durst was stopped in the emergency lane working on his own vehicle when the wheel came off and hit him in the legs, nearly severing one. He later died in an Atlanta critical care unit. Sheriff White explained that his investigators pulled video from a deputy’s car which was trying to turn around on the interstate at a law enforcement cut through of the median at mile marker 200 in the minutes before the wreck. Durst was injured near mile marker 199 on the southbound side. ”The in-car cameras in our units record all the time. We went into his unit’s hard drive to recreate the time and then pulled the video off and created the still image. The tires on the trailer are an exact match for the one we found at the scene. The trailer tires are tandem. We don’t think the driver ever knew it had come off,” the sheriff said. If you recognize the vehicle or boat, call 770.358.5159.
