Qua Searcy, considered by many to be the best athlete to ever come out of Lamar County, put on a show Thursday at the Class AA state track finals at Jefferson, winning two events and finishing second in a third. Searcy, who has signed a football scholarship with Georgia Tech, opened his day with a long jump of 23 feet, four inches to take the individual gold. He then cleared six feet, eight inches in the high jump to finish second to the defending state champion. He closed out his field event schedule with a triple jump of 45 feet, 10 inches to win the gold in the triple jump. Other Trojan performances of note: Akeem Colquitt was 8th in discuss while Noah Eure was eighth in the triple jump.
