Mrs. Jeanette Ivy Downes Chitwood, age 100, of Barnesville, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015 in an Upson County Healthcare Facility. A native of Luvern, Ala. she was the daughter of he late Mr. Charles James Ivey and the late Mrs. Marth Frank Alford Ivey, and she was also preceded in death by her first husband (of 30 years) Joseph Daniel Downes Sr., by her second husband (of 32 years) Lester Lewis Chitwood and by a grandson, Brian. Mrs. Chitwood loved gardening. She was a member of The Women’s League, active in The Little Children of the World and she was a member of The Order of The Eastern Star. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Barnesville, where she was active in Sunday School and served as treasurer of her Sunday School class. Mrs. Chitwood is survived by her daughter, Martha Holloway (and Robert) of Barnesville; her son, Joseph Downes Jr. (and Susan) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; a step-daughter, Jan Bearden (and Mike) of White, Ga.; three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Roper of Montgomery, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Jeanette Chitwood will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Barnesville with the Rev. Garth Forster officiating. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Nov. 14 in the Forest Hills Memorial Park in Forest Park. The family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Home Friday, Nov. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions be made to The First Baptist Church of Barnesville, 200 Zebulon Street, Barnesville, Ga. 30204.
