Jenkins St. death probed

Barnesville police department officers and investigators were on the scene at a home located at 10 Jenkins Street where a 60 year old male was found unresponsive Monday. It is not known at present whether the death involved foul play. At 1:23 p.m. Coroner Jim Smith was en route to the scene. Neighbors say the home was occupied by Dan Merritt but there has been no confirmation that it is his body inside.UPDATE: Coroner Jim Smith confirmed the deceased is Merritt. He said Merritt had been sick and that no foul play is apparent but more analysis will be done when the body arrives at the funeral home.The ramshackle home with broken windows and a partially caved in roof is owned by Richard Merritt, according to tax records.
