As jobs decreased and the number of people seeking them rose, Lamar County’s unemployment rate began rising again in September, jumping to 15.3% from 14.8% in August. Joblessness was 7.8% in September 2008. Lamar’s work force numbered 8,094 people in September with 6,854 working ‘“ a decrease of 35 jobs over the month ‘“and 1,240 looking for work, an increase of 42 people.
