John J. (Jack) Toon, age 85, died Friday, September 16, 2016 in a Florida hospital. He was a resident of Edgewater, Fla., but had lived in Marietta for many years. He was retired from the carpet and fiber business, having worked for companies in DeLand, Florida; Marietta; Newport News, Virginia; Winsted, Connecticut; and Freehold, New Jersey. He was an Air Force veteran, having served in the 118thReconnaissance Technical Squadron during the Korean War. He was an avid collector of books about military history. Survivors include his wife, Robyne Meeker, of Osteen, Florida; sons John D. Toon (Rhonda) of Barnesville, Georgia; and Alan S. Toon, of Marietta, Georgia; a brother, Gilbert Toon (Phyllis) of Pittsboro, North Carolina; a sister, Diann Mellott of Howell, New Jersey, grandchildren Courtney McDaniel (Adam) of Barnesville, Georgia; Daniel Toon (Kelley) of Roswell, Georgia, and a number of great-grandchildren. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Dudley Funeral Home in Edgewater was in charge of arrangements.
