Johnstonville Rd. crashes swamp deputies, hurt one

Two accidents, one involving a loaded school bus, happened nearly simultaneously on Johnstonville Road just after noon Friday. The first call was for a head on collision on Walton Road. The second, less than a minute later, was for an overturned vehicle at the intersection of Johnstonville and Brook roads. In the first crash, a school bus headed north on Walton Road was hit head on by a truck turning right off Johnstonville onto Walton. The crash was of the low-impact variety. The children were taken off the bus and waited in a nearby yard for a second bus. The bus driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital by ambulance. In the second crash, a young male driver eastbound on Johnstonville lost control of his car in a curve. He overcorrected and the car overturned. The car slid off the north side of the roadway and through a concrete wall in front of Bethel Baptist Church, taking out a power pole and a large AT&T communications junction box. Miraculously the driver – the only occupant of the vehicle – was unhurt.
