Morehouse police chief Vernon Worthy pleaded no contest to multiple charges in Lamar superior court Tuesday morning. The charges arose from a hunting incident in which Worthy pulled his gun on and verbally absued Nathaniel Rooks. Testimony showed Rooks was not trespassing as Worthy alleged. Judge Tommy Wilson noted that Rooks expected Worthy to apologize and stay away from him. Worthy had to be cajoled into the apology. “I can’t give you the nolo plea if you don’t tell me something,” Judge Wilson said.Sufficiently motivated, Worthy finally apologized.Judge Wilson sentenced him to 12 months probation and fined him $1000 plus court surcharges.
