Judge Thomas’ funeral is Saturday

Judge William Akins Thomas, age 75 of Milner, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Spalding Regional. He had battled illness for some time. Judge Thomas was born in Lamar County on August 19, 1939. He is preceded in death by his parents, David Hugh Thomas and Melba Opal Akins Thomas. He served in the United States Navy from 1962 until 1983 retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. He also served as Chief Magistrate Judge in Lamar County, GA retiring after 10 years of service. Mr. Thomas was very active in his community, a local Rotarian, and an active member of Milner Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jean Kickliter Thomas; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. William Thomas, Jr. and wife Paula, Andrew Thomas and wife Mesha; grandchildren, William Thomas III, Kirby Neill Thomas; sisters, Gillian Tilghman, Sarah Frances Munzenrider; brother, David Hugh Thomas, Jr.; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation for Judge William Akins Thomas will be on Saturday, June 27, 2015 from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Milner Baptist Church. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. at the church. Dr. Ken Ross will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors.
