Miss Kara Holland, 21, of Barnesville, passed away Saturday, Jan, 31, 2015 at the Spalding Regional Hospital. Kara was born March 25, 1993, in Upson County, daughter of Frank and Julie Holland of Barnesville. She was a graduate of Upson Lee High School and was attending Gordon State College pursuing her bachelor’s degree in nursing. Kara owned and operated the Some Beach Tans in Barnesville. Kara loved working out, soccer, knee boarding and riding Sea Doos. At age 13, Kara competed in the American Taekwondo Association World Championship with about 25,000 competitors. Kara won first place in forms, second place in sparring and fourth place in weapons. She was very outgoing, adventurous and loved going to the beach and spending time with her family. She touched numerous lives and brought joy to everyone. Survivors in addition to her parents include her maternal grandmother, Sheila Nicholson (Nana) of Barnesville; paternal grandparents, Frank and Judy Holland of Thomaston; aunt and uncle, Keith and Kim Wilson; cousins, Hunter, Lacey and Kade; aunt, Brandie Fountain; uncle, Jason Holland; and cousin, Brittney Newton.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Rock Springs Congregational Methodist Church with Dr. Benny Tate, Rev. Garth Forster and Rev. C.C. Hinton officiating.
